Big Sean - Loyalty To A Fault

Big Sean links up with Grammy-level producer Hit-Boy to deliver the high-energy EP, What You Expect. I hit the gym to write a live review.

“She throwing fits at me, just like my closet.”

Sean Michael Leonard Anderson is 33 and is literally a legend in the rap game, but he still brings a crazy level of hunger & passion to each project. Hit-Boy, also known as Chauncey Hollis Jr., is a certified hitmaker that has received Grammys for his work with Jay-Z, Kanye, and Nipsey Hussle. He is also noted for production on "Sicko Mode", "Niggas in Paris", and Beyonce's "Lemonade". When these two team up, fans are blessed with a 6-song Project as fire as "What You Expect?".

Sean Anderson starts the project with pure “Chaos”. This infectious beat tells me to get my ass up and head straight to the gym. “I fell asleep at the top, while they sleeping on me.” Lemme wake up.

is this nigga really at the gym?

Since Detroit, Sean Don has always represented for the underdog through witty punchlines and unique cadences. “Into It” just came on… I’m on the treadmill now. F*** it. Let’s eat. Hit-Boy knows what he’s doing. (production credits: Trophies, Sicko Mode, Clique & More)

Taking a more heartfelt approach, “The One” contains a smooth SWV sample that allows Sean to reflect and update the fans on his 2021 life. He raps back and forth about being counted out and reaching the peak of rap without the industry recognition he deserves.

“Don’t got a problem being real.

I got real problems.”

Okay, this next song is just as fire as ‘the one’ before it. Did I hear Tiller float in like a ballon? This ‘the real one’. Durk verse went dummy, goodness. “Look how Future did Pippen”. 👀

What a Life, the lead single, is everything you'd expect. More bars. More word flips. More motivation. The video is dope in itself. Sean states that his price is a B (a billy), then covers himself in 65,000 bees. (reminds me of Beyonce on Twitter)

“I’m stepping over shit that use to make me trip.”

Okay, i’m on the bench now. Drenched in sweat. The tape has started over and i’m not close to done. Sean Don x Hit-Boy have infused Gatorade into my airpods. Take a listen guys.
