The Heartbreak Kid: Trae ‘Nem

Today we have an interview with the Hive’s very own @HBK_Trae. With hit singles “HBK After Dark” and “Bankroll”, Trae ‘Nem doesn’t show signs of slowing down any time soon. We pour up some Bumbu to start the interview and turn on "Her Friënd Tho" (a new leak he's dropping soon)

What’s good man, welcome to The Hive. First off, tell me who Trae ‘Nem is. Where you from?

What’s good Music Hive. I’m an upcoming artist originally from Biloxi, Mississippi.

A question everyone’s been wondering, Who the hell is ‘nem?

Good question [lol] I’ve always surrounded myself around other individuals that emit high energy and good vibes. “Nem” just stands for the gang. My friends, fans, producers and everyone else that rocks with me. I couldn’t do it without their support.

Okay, so Why or When did you start making music?

I have always been a big music head. In elementary I would ride to school with a cd player. I actually grew up leading songs in church at the age of 6. (Literally recorded my first song at vacation bible school). In college I started DJing and ended up around a lot of other creatives. I begin making beats and 4 years later, here we are

Who were some of your early influences? [can be rappers, producers, genres... whatever]

Growing up, I was big on Chris Brown & Lil Wayne. Kanye has always stuck out to me because he made songs with artists from every genre. As a jit, I spent countless hours in from of my tv emulating Michael Jackson. l really fw Travis Scott & Trippie too.

Why do you call yourself HBK Trae?

I’m the black HBK. Word to Shawn Michaels. I grew up watching a lot of Wrestling and Anime.

As a Mississippi native, what are you doing to reach a larger audience/expand your fanbase?

Man I basically just hit every social media hard. I got some faithful fans that post & support whenever I drop & it only gets bigger with each song. I’ve reached fans and even producers in Africa, UK and Canada so far.

So what exactly makes you different from the thousands of other artists out there? What makes your music worth listening to?

Each song I make is unique vibe. From that state I was in at the time. I tried to make each song different but relatable on Heartbreak Trae. I rap, make RnB vibes, and sometimes you’ll even catch me vibing out making a House/Boom Bap beat.

With Heartbreak Trae out and making waves, what does the Black Shawn Michaels have planned for us next for his fans??

I got a a ton of music ready just perfecting my craft and getting features from other fire artists + singers. S/o to #HBKGang!

That’s dope can’t wait to hear you got next.

You been dropping a lot this year. Speaking of that, speak on some of your recent collabs?

Man, I been on a warpath lately. In June, i dropped a collab project with my bro Cliffy Nettles that’s doing numbers n YouTube. I only had one feature on the solo album and that was from SossHouse’s Chavo. I’m currently working on some new heat and I got some hard ass features on the new songs too.

We’ve noticed that your production has rapidly increased over the past year, Who is your go-to producer?

Big shoutouts to my producer & engineer JWoods2x. He’s helping me elevate my sound and you hear his production a lot on Heartbreak Trae. I also have to thank my great video director: RasCreative. He brings all of my visions to life and we have more visuals dropping soon. September 9th to be exact. >:)
